The integrated furnace control board sequences the whole heating cycle: it runs the inducer, waits on the pressure switch, energises the ignitor, opens the gas valve, watches the flame sensor, and starts the blower. It is also the part that reports fault codes, so the board is usually where diagnosis starts — and, because it is expensive, the part most often replaced when something else was to blame.

Signs your control board may have failed

  • No response at all when the thermostat calls for heat
  • No fault code, or a code the sequence does not match
  • Visible scorch marks, swollen capacitors, or burnt relay contacts
  • Blower or inducer runs continuously and will not stop

Control Boards questions

How do I know it is the board and not something else?
Work through the sequence and find where it stops. If the inducer never starts, check the board has 24V and the thermostat call arrives. If the ignitor never glows despite the pressure switch closing, the board may not be sending line voltage to it. Confirm that the board is failing to send a signal, rather than a downstream part failing to act on one — boards are the most commonly misdiagnosed part in the furnace.
Read the fault code before you order.
The LED on the board flashes a pattern, and the legend is printed on the furnace door panel or the board itself. Photograph both the flash pattern and the legend. That code, plus your model number, tells us whether you need a board at all.
Can I use a board from a different model?
No. Boards are matched to the furnace by ignition type, staging, blower control, and connector pinout. Order against your model number, and photograph the existing board including its part number label — manufacturers supersede board part numbers frequently, and we will supply the current equivalent.
