Gas Valves questions
- Should a homeowner replace a gas valve?
- We sell the part to whoever needs it, but be straight with yourself about this one. Replacing a gas valve means breaking a gas connection and leak-testing it afterwards, and in BC that is licensed gas-fitter work. If you are not certain of your leak test, have a licensed technician fit it — we will supply the correct part either way.
- How do I confirm the valve is the failed part?
- Verify that 24V actually reaches the valve terminals during the trial for ignition. If the voltage is present and the valve does not open, the valve has failed. If the voltage never arrives, the fault is upstream — the board, a safety, or the flame-sense circuit.
- If I smell gas, what should I do?
- Do not troubleshoot. Leave the building, and from outside call FortisBC at 1-800-663-9911 or 911. Do not operate switches or anything that could spark on your way out.
